Description of Scrofoloso Tenons
1.Allergy :
An altered or exaggerated susceptibility to various foreign substances or physical agents which are harmless to a great majority of individuals. It is due to an antigen -antibody reaction, though the antibody is not always demonstrable otherwise.
2.Urticaria :
An allergic skin eruption characterised by multiple, circumscribed, smooth, raised, pinkish, itchy weals, developing very suddenly, usually lasting a few days and leaving no visible trace. Common provocative agents in suspetable subjects are ingested food such as shellfish, injected sera and with contact, injection of antibiotics such as penicillin and streptomycin.
3.Toxics :
Poisonous foreign substances in the system, generally the product of bacteria Or damaged tissue.
4.Anaemia :
Signifies poverty of blood as a whole or more frequently of some important constituents as the number of red cells, albumin, or haemoglobin. For convenience in studying we divide anaemia into :
Primary i.e.chlorosis and progressive pernicious anaemia, secondary i.e.anaemia due to haemorrhages, both acute and chronic, or loss of other fluids of the body.
Chlorosis
Green sickness or chloremia, is a blood disease of which anaemia is the ranking symptom. It is found almost exclusively in women from fourteen to twenty- eight years of age. The number of red cells is greatly reduced and the haemoglobin is still less in proportion. As a rule, the development of chlorosis is spontaneous and its course is uncomplicated. There is a marked tendency to recurrence.
Pernicious anaemia
i.e.essential or idiopathic anaemia is a form of primary anaemia, characterised by certain changes in the blood , viz. Defective haematogenesis and excessive haematolysis, independent of any diseases of any of the viscera, blood changes include the progressive decrease of the number of red blood cells even to 500,000 with an increase in size and form of the cell, reduction of haemoglobin, which however is relatively increased, due to the progressive reduction in the number of red blood cells, and changes in the composition of plasma and the coagulability.
Symptomatic or secondary anamia caused by the loss of blood from haemorrhages Or from changes in the composition of the blood, resulting from septic, malarial or other poisions. They are found in the course of a large variety of morbid conditions such as exhausting and malignant disease, say tuberculosis, syphilis and so on.
5.Diabetes mellitus
Is an abnormal metabolic condition with a large amount of sugar in the blood, abnormally large amount in the urine;a progressive loss of flesh and strength ; dryness of the mouth and frequent urge for urination, increased appetite or abnormal hunger, it is said to arise from pancreatic malfunctioning especially from suppression of insulin secretion, a product of islet of langerhans. The disorder developes a diathesis of its own and is liable to give rise to the functional and organic disease involving kidneys, liver, pancreas, lungs, heart, stomach, skin and blood in general. They are catarrhal or interstitial nephritis, cirrhosis of liver, fatty degeneration of pancreas, phthisis, arterio- sclerosis, catarrhal, gastritis, pigmentations of the skin with marked bronzing in spots with liver leasions and diminished alkalinity of the blood ; increased lipoids, fat, urea, in excess and general anamia, also tumours, hardening, oedema and extreme hyperamia.
